CAUTION - USE OF RADIO SIGNALS (LIMITATIONS) Limitations on the use of radio signals as aids to marine navigation can be found in the U.S. Coast Guard Light Lists and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Publication 117. Radio direction-finder bearings to commercial broadcasting stations are subject to error and should be used with caution. Significant changes in depths and shoreline may have occurred as a result of the earthquake of March 27, 1964. The magnitude of change is known only at selected sites which are indicated by note on the larger scale charts. CAUTION - QUALITY OF BATHYMETRIC DATA The areas represented by the object M_QUAL (Quality of Data) are approximate due to generalizing for clarity. Caution is advised, particularly for nearshore navigation or voyage planning. M_QUAL represents areas of uniform quality of bathymetric data. The CATZOC (Category of Zone of Confidence in Data) attribute of M_QUAL provides an assessment of the overall zone of confidence. CAUTION - SIGNIFICANT CHANGES Significant changes in depths and shoreline may have occurred in the area of chart as a result of the earthquake of March 27, 1964. Tidal observations since the earthquake indicate bottom uplift of +0.3 feet at King Cove, Alaska Peninsula and bottom subsidence of -0.2 feet of Chignick Bay, Alaska Peninsula. Observations at Sand Point, Popof Island, Indicated there was no change at that location. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution when navigating in the area of this chart as the magnitude of change except at these sites is not known. CAUTION - SUBMARINE OPERATING AREAS Submerged Submarine Operating Areas falling within the limits of the larger scale charts are shown thereon and not repeated. CAUTION - SUBMARINE PIPELINES AND CABLES Additional uncharted submarine pipelines and submarine cables may exist within the area of this chart. Not all submarine pipelines and sub-marine cables are required to be buried, and those that were originally buried may have become exposed. Mariners should use extreme caution when operating vessels in depths of water comparable to their draft in areas where pipelines and cables may exist, and when anchoring, dragging or trawling. Covered wells may be marked by lighted or unlighted buoys. CAUTION - TIDAL Tidal observations made by the National Ocean Service since the earthquake of March 27, 1964, indicate bottom uplift or subsidence at the following locations: Chignik Bay, Alaska Pen. -0.2 feet / -0.06 meters Sand Pt, Popof Island 0 feet / 0 meters King Cove, Alaska Pen. +0.3 feet / +0.09 meters Mariners are cautioned to expect shoaling or deepening for the areas listed. Tidal observations at this time are selected sites and the magnitude of the changes except at these sites is not known. COLREGS, 80.1705 (see note A) International Regulations for Preventing Collisions of Sea, 1972. The entire area falls seaward of the COLREGS Demarcation Line. NOAA WEATHER RADIO BROADCASTS The NOAA Weather Radio stations listed below provide continuous weather broadcasts. The reception range is typically 20 to 40 nautical miles from the antenna site, but can be as much as 100 nautical miles for stations at high elevations.
