SÖDERTÄLJE KANAL
INFORMATION FOR SMALL CRAFT

Questions about passage of the canal and lock will be answered

Small craft are recommended to watch VHF channel 68, and 16 if possible,
all the way between Bornhuvud and Skanssundet

Sailing is not allowed in the canal between:
Södra kanalens S entrance and Linasundets N entrance

Small craft must:
Stay clear of the fairway when meeting or being overtaken 
by merchant vessels
Give precedence to merchant vessels entering the lock and 
when passing bridges and traffic-controlled passages
Stay clear of the fairway or moor at assigned place while 
waiting for lock- and bridge-clearence
Moor at assigned place in the lock and keep continuous 
watch of mooringlines

IMPORTANT LIGHT-SIGNALS
For safety reasons small craft must not meet merchant vessels 
in Södra and Norra Kanalen.
The traffic is controlled by light-signals at these passages. 
Location of signals are marked on the chart.
Light signal  2 Iso R 3s: All traffic STOP

LOCK and LOCK-BRIDGE
For safety reasons small craft may not pass through the lock together 
with merchant vessels. Permission to enter the lock is given by 
loudspeakers 200 metres from each side of the lock or on VHF ch 14.
Information-boards for urgent messages to vessels and pleasure craft 
are mounted at the jetties on both sides of the lock.

Lockage times for south-going craft:

High season (1 June - 31 August):
15 minutes after every whole hour.

Low season (before 1 June and after 31 August).
Monday 0915 - Friday 1800: 15 minutes after every two hours starting 
at 0915 and finish 2115.
Friday 1800 - Sunday 2115: Bridge opens as under high season.

Lockage times for north-going craft:

Times for lockage will be coordinated with south-going traffic to 
minimize the number of bridge-openings.

Passage of merchant vessels may cause delay.

MÄLARBRON (bridge)
The bridge is remote-controlled from the lock.
Vertical clearance = 15 m in the centre of the passage.

Times for bridge opening
Monday 0900 - Friday 1800: every two hours 0900, 1100 .....
Friday 1800 - Sunday 2100: every whole hour 0800 - 2100.
Further information is given via loudspeakers.

Boats with height exceeding 15 m may pass in connection with 
bridge openings for merchant ships.
