SÖDERTÄLJE CANAL 

GENERAL INFORMATION

VHF-WATCH
VHF-channel 68.

REPORTING
VHF Ch  68 should be used for contact with Södertälje canal.
Call signal: Södertälje canal
Vessels should report at the following positions:

NORTH-BOUND
- Fläsklösa (Reporting Point 22)
- Under the bridges Södra kanalbroarna
- When leaving Linasundet (vessels with beam >8,5 m)

SOUTH-BOUND
- Bornhuvud light (Reporting Point 23)
- Sällskapsholmen
- When leaving Södra kanalen (vessels with beam >8,5 m)

VISIBILITY
The canal is closed for all traffic (exept pleasure crafts) when the visibility is less than 400m. 
LOCK
VTS advices vessels where to wait for lock passage and gives order for entering the lock.

TRAFFIC- and BRIDGE SIGNALS
Location of signals are marked on the chart by SS.

LINASUNDET, SOUTH- and NORTH-BOUND
Signals on the northern part of Slottsholmen and NW of the island Limpan:
2 Iso R 3s		All traffic - Stop
Iso W 3s		All traffic - Proceed

NORRA KANALEN, SOUTH-BOUND
Signal on the  Mälarbrons control tower, N side:
2 Iso R 3s		All traffic - Stop
Iso W 3s		All traffic - Proceed

MÄLARBRON (Double bascule bridge)
The bridge is remote-controlled from the lock. Request for opening on VHF:
SOUTH-BOUND	When passing Sällskapsholmen
NORTH-BOUND	In the lock
Iso R 3s		The bridge is closed or is closing
Iso R + Iso W 3s	Signal from vessel aknowledged
Iso W 3s + F W		The bridge is being opened
Iso G 3s		The bridge is open
F R			The bridge can not be opened

THE LOCK and THE LOCK-BRIDGE
Iso R 3s		Stop. The lock and bridge are closed
Iso R + Iso W 3s	The lock is about to be opened
Iso G 3s		The lock and bridge are open. Proceed
Signals in the four corners of the lock:
F G			Clear to leave the lock

Information boards for urgent messages to vessels and pleasure 
crafts are mounted at the jetties on both sides of the lock.
THE BRIDGES SÖDRA KANALBROARNA
Iso R 3s		The bridges are closed
Iso R 3s + Iso W 3s 	Signal from vessel aknowledged
Iso R 3s + F W		The bridges are being opened
Iso G 3s		Bridges are open - vertical clearence 30 m
2 Iso G 3s		Bridges are open - vertical clearence 35 m
3 Iso G 3s		Bridges are open - vertical clearence 42 m
F R			Bridges can not be opened

SÖDRA KANALEN, SOUTH- and NORTH-BOUND
Signals on the W-side of the Södra kanalen's N entrance, 
on the pier at the E-side of Södra kanalen's S entrance and 350 m 
ESE of the canal entrance in Igelstaviken
2 Iso R 3s		All traffic - Stop
Iso W 3s		All traffic - Proceed

GAUGES - PLANES OF REFERENCE
MSL at Mälaren-side: + 4,10 m on gauge upside the lock.
MSL at Baltic-side:  + 3,50 m on gauge downside the lock.
