O sistema geodésico de referência das Cartas Electrónicas de Navegação é o WGS84, pelo que as posições, que são obtidas através dos sistemas de posicionamento por satélite, deverão estar referenciadas ao mesmo Datum e são marcadas directamente na carta.
O equipamento utilizado para ler e visualizar as Cartas Electrónicas de Navegação é o ECDIS. 
As Cartas Electrónicas de Navegação são compiladas com base em informação hidrográfica existente, que se pretende actual e rigorosa, sendo para tal efectuados diversos controlos de qualidade a nível nacional e internacional. Não obstante o referido, a informação representada nem sempre está completa, actualizada ou foi adquirida pelos mais modernos meios de aquisição de dados. 
Nesta célula, a informação representada é, em parte considerável, referida a 1974. Cabe ao navegante interpretar, avaliar e aplicar, como julgar adequado à situação, a informação constante na Carta Electrónica de Navegação, tomando em consideração as circunstâncias particulares existentes, as recomendações da pilotagem local e a utilização criteriosa das Ajudas à Navegação disponíveis, por forma a conduzir a sua navegação com toda a segurança.
Recomenda-se que a navegação na área contacte as autoridades locais para a obtenção de informação complementar.

A Corrente Equatorial Norte faz-se sentir entre o paralelo 18ºN e a Contra Corrente Equatorial, cujo limite varia entre os 8º N (de Novembro a Julho) e os 10ºN (de Agosto a Outubro).

Recomenda-se vivamente a todos os Navegantes que comuniquem, às Autoridades Marítimas, Portuárias ou ao Instituto Hidrográfico, de imediato, e pela via mais rápida, a descoberta de novos perigos ou suspeita de perigos para a navegação, assim como qualquer alteração ou anomalia nas ajudas à navegação, nas cartas náuticas oficiais, nas publicações náuticas oficiais e noutros documentos náuticos oficiais.

The geodetic system used by ENCs is WGS84. The positions obtained by the satellite positioning systems should use the same Datum and, in ECDIS, the plot of the positions is in real-time.
The navigational systems used to read and display ENCs are the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). 
ECDIS must be used with carefully and the Mariner must know exactly his errors and mistakes as well as limitations. Bearing in mind the safety of navigation, cartographic information used by the systems must be produced and issued by national hydrographic offices.
The Portuguese Hydrographic Office (IHPT) is the national hydrographic office with the authority to produce official ENCs. IHPT has made all efforts to ensure the ENCs supplied are accurate, but it should be appreciate that the ENCs may not always be complete, up to date or positioned to modern surveying standards. 
The information contained in this cell is, partly considerable, very old and mainly referred to old surveys conducted in 1974. 
The mariner should be the final judge of the reliance he places on the information given on ENCs, bearing in mind the safety of navigation.
IHPT fully recommended all navigation to contact the local maritime authorities in order to obtain more and updated information.

The Equatorial North Current flows from 18ºN and the Equatorial Counter Current which limit varies from 8ºN (from November to July) to 10º N (from August to October).

Mariners are particularly requested to notify immediately the Maritime Authority, Port Authority or the Instituto Hidrográfico, of the discovery of new dangers to navigation and changes or incorrections in aids to navigation, official nautical charts and official nautical publications, and other official nautical documents.
