It is declared a protected natural area, with the character of a National Park, the area known as Sistema Arrecifal Veracruzano
that corresponds to the buffer polygon formed by a set of 28 reefs; within which are located two core areas called Blanca and
Santiaguillo. According to decree published on november 29 of 2012 in the Official Journal of the Federation.
