Declared protected natural area, with the status of "National Marine Park" to the area known as "Arrecifes de Cozumel", by decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on July 19, 1996. This park is prohibited for anchoring, diving at night (except for scientific research), modification of the coastline, sailing vessels with drafts greater than two meters, fishing and any motor vehicle, except for work surveillance or emergency, the sinking of wrecks and the creation of artificial reefs. For permitted activities from the depth contour of 100 meters to the outer edge of the Park, consult the Management Program of the Protected Natural Area, according to the notice published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on October 2, 1998.
