It is declared a Protected Natural Area, with the character of Flora and Fauna Protection Area, the area known as Yum Balam, located in the municipality of Lazaro Cardenas, in the State of Quintana Roo. The area consists of a polygon corresponding to the buffer zone, within which are located fifteen subzones of management. These areas are considered fragile and sensitive environmental systems, so the general public must abide by the provisions of the respective Management Program and the provisions contained in the DECREE published on June 6th, 1994 in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
