It is declared a Protected Natural Area, with the character of Biosphere Reserve, the area known as Mexican Caribbean, located in the municipalities of Mujeres Island, Benito Juarez, Tulum and off the coasts of Morelos Port, Solidaridad, Cozumel, Bacalar and Othon P. Blanco, in the state of Quintana Roo. The area is integrated by a polygon corresponding to the buffer zone, within which are located six core zones called Boca Iglesias Wetlands, Chacmochuch Lagoon, Xcacel-Xcacelito Marine Zone, Banco Chinchorro Diving, Colmer Submarine Hills and Caiman Submarine Rise. These areas are considered to be fragile and sensitive environmental systems, for which the general public must abide by the provisions of the respective Management Program and the provisions contained in the Decree published on december 7th, 2016 in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
