It is declared a Protected Natural Area, with the character of Biosphere Reserve, the area known as La Encrucijada, located in the Municipalities of Pijijiapan, Mapastepec, Acapetahua, Huixtla, Villa Comaltitlan and Mazatan, in the State of Chiapas. These areas are considered to be fragile and sensitive environmental systems, for which reason the general public must abide by the provisions of the respective Management Program and the provisions contained in the Decree published in the Official Journal of the Federation on June 6th, 1995.
