It is declared a Protected Natural Area, with the character of Biosphere Reserve, the area known as the Mexican Deep Pacific, located in the Pacific Ocean, off the coasts of the states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan de Ocampo, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas. The area is integrated by four general polygons corresponding to the buffer zone called Revillagigedo Deep Marine Zone which are located eight core zones, Banderas Underwater Canyon its core zone includes the entire surface of the buffer zone, Mesoamerican Trench with four core zones and Tehuantepec two core zones are defined. These areas are considered fragile and sensitive environmental systems, for which the general public must abide by the respective Management Program and the provisions contained in the Decree published on December 7th, 2016 in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
