It is declared a Protected Natural Area, with the character of National Park, the area known as Veracruzano Reef System, located in the municipalities of Veracruz, Boca del Rio and Alvarado, in the state of Veracruz. The area is made up of a polygon corresponding to the buffer zone, made up of 28 coral reefs and six islands, within which are located two core zones called Blanca and Santiaguillo. These areas are considered to be fragile and sensitive environmental systems, for which reason the general public must abide by the provisions of the respective Management Program and the provisions contained in the Decree published on November 29, 2012 in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
