	Gangavaram Port Limited. (17º 37' N, 83º 16.5' E) The Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) South of Visakhapatnam is being developed as a world class all weather, deep water and multipurpose port. The port would be fully operational by end 2008.
	The Port Limits are as follows:

	a) 17° 38´·56 N., 83° 15´·62E
	b) 17° 34'·89 N., 83° 21'.89E.
	c) 17° 24´·77 N., 83° 13´·52E.
	d) 17° 31´·79 N., 83° 05´·46E.

Arrival Information. The master, owner or agent of the vessel desiring to enter the port is required to make an application to the Deputy Conservator, Gangavaram Port Limited at least 72 hrs prior to vessel's arrival. All arriving vessels are also required to forward pre-arrival notification of security (PANS) and ballast water reporting form in the IMO format duly filled up at least 24 hrs prior arrival.

Land Mark. A conspicuous temple on Meraka Matta hill (55m high) is located just S of the southern breakwater. Gangavaram Port Signal Station, located on Valla Matta hill (64m high) is also very conspicuous from the sea side while approaching the port.

Port Radio. All arriving vessels are advised to contact Gangavaram Port Signal Station (Call Sign "Gangavaram Port") on VHF channel 16 at least 2 hours before their arrival at Gangavaram Port.  The working channels for VHF are 10, 11 and 14. Port Signal Station is equipped with radar and AIS systems.

Anchorage. Vessels would be advised her anchoring position by the port signal station on VHF or through ship's agent prior her arrival at anchorage area. The anchoring position shall be within the port limits, keeping the pilot boarding ground (which is 2nm ESE of the first set of channel buoys) and approaches to the port channel well clear.
	Pilotage. Pilot boards the vessels at pilot boarding ground in position (17º 36'.8 N, 83º 17'.5 E, 2nm ESE of the channel entrance marking buoys No. 1 & 2).

Tug. One ASD type tug of 45 tonnes Bollard pull and one tractor tug of 45 tonnes Bollard pull are presently available.  One ASD type Tug of 50 Tonnes Bollard pull is likely to be available from December 2008.

Entrance Channel. The entrance channel to the port is 200m wide, about 1780m in length and dredged to a depth of 20.2m. Channel and turning basin are well marked by 8 Nos. lighted channel marker navigational buoys. To assist in navigation through the channel one set of leading lights bearing 265° are provided. The Port is protected by northern breakwater (800m in length) and southern breakwater (1748m in length). Breakwater heads are provided with lights.

Inner Harbour. A turning basin of 600m diameter and dredged to 19.5m depth lies at the western end of the channel well within the protected waters.

Berthing Facilities. There are total five berths of 14 to 19.5 m depth alongside.

Weather. The Port experiences South West Monsoon from around 1st May to 31st August and North East Monsoon from around 1st September to 15th December. The applicable Load Line Zones in the Bay of Bengal are as under:
	Summer -	from 1st May to 30th November.
	Tropical -	from 1st December to 30th April.
Currents of monsoonal origin exist, tending to follow the coast line.  During North - East monsoon from September to December, South - Westerly current setting with rates from 0.5 to 2 knots are experienced, maximum being in September.  During the rest of the year, North - Easterly current with rates from 0.5 to 1.5 knots are experienced with maximum being in May.  The Monsoon driven currents are significantly stronger than the Tidal Currents.

Supply. Fresh Water, Provisions, Bunkers and Lubricants are available locally. Arrangements for supply can be made through Ship's Agent, Ship Chandlers and Oil companies.

Restrictions. The contaminated ballast water shall not be discharged in Port.  It is advisable to change the ballast at sea before arriving the Port. Ballast information is required to be furnished through the Ship's Agent in prescribed IMO format before the vessel's arrival in Port.

Facilities. Facilities are available for discharge of oily wastes, sewage and garbage through authorized contractors. Arrangements can be made through the Ship's Agent.
