General information:

1.	Salaya is a small town with stone houses, it stands at the head of Salaya Creek about 8 miles within the harbour entrance; the town is inaccessible through sea at low water.
	The town of Khambhaliya,where there are several old temples ,is situated 7 miles SSE of Salaya Town.

2.	Salaya has two harbours, of which the first one is a small fishing harbour which is extensively used by locally built Dhows. The local populas predominantly use this harbour for fishing activities.
	A port supervisor is in-charge of monitoring fishing activities.

3.	The main harbour of Salayais the Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya) limited which is scheduled to be in Q2-FY 16. The Terminal is connected to the Essar Power plant by means of road.

Salaya Fishing Harbour:

1.	Position: Salaya Fishing Harbour (22º 19'.0 N, 69º 46'.0 E) is situated approximately 7.5 miles SSE of KalubarTapu Lt. it is entered between drying coral reefs extending NE from Dhani Bet and SW from KalubharTapu.


2.	Function: Generally, local fishing dhows use the port regularly. The harbour also serves for building of small dhows and undertaking their repairs.

3.	Topography: Dhani Bet, which forms the SW side of the harbour, is a flat peninsula of sand and mud, fringed with mangroves. The peninsula is covered at high water springs except for some sand ridges at its N end;
	a sandbank close NW of the peninsula dries 3 to	5 mand the surrounding coral reef dries about 3 mNE side of the harbour is formed by KalubharTapu (Karumbhar Island), it resembles Dhani Bet in composition
	but there is a low narrow ridge of sand, covered with low scrub, along its N side. Kalubhar   Reef(Karumbhar Reef) surrounds the island, it consists of hard dead coral and some very soft mud flats which
	are dangerous to walk on at low water; the reef covers at half tide.

4.	Approach and entry: Approach to the port is approached from NW, across a bar of soft mud, and entered between the reefs of Dhani Bet and KalubharTapu along the road towards Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya)
	limited entering into the Salaya Creek. The harbour is located 3 miles south of the creek mouth.

5.	Port authority: The port is administered by Port Officer, Bedi group of Ports, Saru Section Road, Jamnagar-361006.

Limiting conditions:

1.	Tidal levels: Mean spring range about 3.8 m; mean neap range about 2.5 m. See information in Tide Tables.
	Density of water is 1.025 g/cm3.

2.	Harbour layout: The port consist of a cemented jetty with facilities to position dhows. The harbour is approximately one km from Salaya town.

3.	Storm signals are displayed at the Salaya by using the brief system.

4.	Tidalstreams exist from 2 to 3 miles off the entrance to the harbour, the in-going stream sets East and out-going West, they attain a rate of 1 kn at Neaps.

5.	TransportationSalaya and Khambhaliya are both connected by road and general railway system.

Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya) Limited
	
	General Information:

9.80

1.	The principal activities are material handling for dry bulk cargo. The dry bulk facility will handle the import of coal, limestone, fertilisers and bauxite. The port is scheduled to be commissioned in Q2-FY16.

9.81

Anchorages:

1.	The purpose of anchorage will be mainly pre-berthing. Anchorage may be obtained at a depth of approximately 20 m. nature of bottom is Sand/Mud. Pilotage to anchorage is not compulsory.
	Nevertheless the port may be contacted by all vessels entering in order to obtain anchorage position.

2.	Piers and Jetties: The length of the berth is 385 m. ships of draught upto 14 m and capacity of 1, 05,000 DWT can be berthed.

Pilotage:

1.	Pilotage to the port is compulsory. Authority for requesting pilot will be Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya)Limited.Pilot will board the vessel at position 22º30'.25N, 69º31'.31E.

1.	Tidal Levels.Mean Spring range is about 6.3 m; tidal stream is generally south westerly. See information in tide tables.

2.	Winds are predominantly South Westerly.

1.	Buoyed channel. The entry to the port is well marked by channel buoys.

	Landmarks:
	KalubharTapu Light (22º 26'.32 N, 69º 35'.23 E).

1.	Facilities:

	(a) Tugs. The port provides tug facilities round the clock. Authority for request is Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya) Limited.

	(b)  Repairs. The port has no facility to undertake any repairs/maintenance.

	(c)  Supplies.  Fuel, freshwater and provisions can be arranged through agents.

2.	Stockyard facilities:

	Spread over an area of 3, 20,000 sq.m, the stockyard has a capacity of 7.5 lakh ton forcoal and pet coke.It also has a dust suppression system and a dust extract system at junction houses.

Connectivity:

	(a) By Road. Connectivity is provided by state highway 25(SH-25) which runs from Rajkot to Okha.

	(b) By Rail. Salaya is located approximately 13 kms from Jamnagar-Okha line. Rail connectivity to the port is in progress and alignment has been finalized.

	(c) By Air. Jamnagar is the nearest airport at a distance of 45 km.
