2106- MUNDRA PORT General Information: Mundra Port (22º 43'.80 N, 69º 42'.30E) is a privately owned all weather port with the deepest direct berthing facilities in the Gulf of Kachchh. The port is operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. The port is capable of accommodating fully laden vessels up to 2,70,000 DWT and post panamax container vessels. Port Limit. The port limit are as shown on chart 203. Function: The port is capable of handling all kinds of containers, including hazardous cargoes. The dangerous cargoes are also handled with the exception of IMDG class 1 & 7. The cargo work is carried out round the clock Principle Export Cargos. Steel Cargoes, Soya Bean Meal, Wheat, Bauxite in bulk, Bentonitein bulk and packaged form, Vegetable Oils, Chemicals, Met Coke & Project Cargo. Principle Import Cargos. Coal, Iron Ore, Wheat, Sugar, Fertilizers, Chemicals, Crude Oil, Product Oils, Vegetable Oils, Steel Cargos and Project Cargo. Notice of ETA required. Vessels should send ETA 7 days, 5 days, 3 days, 48 hours and 24 hours prior to arrival. Vessel must contact Mundra Port Control on VHF channel 16/77 at least 2 hours prior to arrival at Mundra Port limits for specific instructions regarding berthing. Port Radio. Mundra Port Control on VHF channels primary 77, secondary 73 (24 hours). The traffic and weather forecasts are available on request. Anchorages: The anchorage provides good holding grounds of fine sand, mud and broken shells. However vessels may be advised to have sufficient cable view the strong tidal streams prevalent in the area. The average winds during monsoon are about 25 kts gusting to 40 kts during peak SW’ly monsoon season. The details of the available anchorages are as under: Multipurpose/Container Terminal: Two designated anchorage area for vessels awaiting berth at Marine Terminals or Container Terminals is as follows: SPM: Designated Anchorage for vessels awaiting berthing at SPM is bounded by co-ordinates: (a) 22º 38'.55 N, 69º 38'.06 E (b) 22º 37'.60 N, 69º 38'.06 E (c) 22º 37'.96 N, 69º 36'.07 E (d) 22º 38'.55 N, 69º 36'.07 E STS: Anchorage for STS operations is centered on position 22º42'.40N, 69º46'.60E with a radius of 0.5 mile. The minimum depth at STS anchorage is 22m. Special: Anchorage for disabled vessels, vessels awaiting quarantine clearance, vessels under port of refuge etc. is centered on position 22º 43'.2 N, 69º 46'.8 E with a radius of 0.25 mile. Roadstead anchorage. Vessels calling on old Mundra port (Mitha Port) and working cargo on roadstead should anchor about 1 mile ESE of Navinal Point keeping well clear of alignment of approach channel for container terminals. Minimum depth at anchorage. The minimum depth at Mundra Port – Multi Pourpose Terminal/ South Basin anchorage is 19.2 m,at SPM anchorage is 39 m and at West Basin anchorage is 30 m. Pilotage: Pilotage is compulsory within port limits. Guided by the International Boarding Standards, it is controlled by the Mundra Port Authority on VHF Channels 16/77. No movements are to be undertaken other than anchoring at designated anchorages without licensed pilot on board and without express instruction from port control office. The requesting authority is “Mundra Port Control” on VHF Channel 77/16. Tides and current: Tidal range is between +0.00m and +6.50m. The tidal stream runs in the directions 070°-250° at an average rate of 3 kts and 4-5 kts during spring tides. Wave heights & periods vary between range 0.14 -1.30m and 6.50 - 17.0 sec respectively. Navigational Aids: Mundra Port Marine Control Tower Light is positioned at 22°43'.89N, 69°42'.36E and is exhibited from the top of Marine Control Building. Approach Channel for Container terminal, West Basin and South Basin is marked with lit buoys. One pair of transit lights is installed to assist in approach for MMPT Container Channel, Second pair of transit lights is installed to approach for Terminal No. 2 (berth 7 & 8). The third pair of transit lights is installed to approach for West Basin Channel. Single Point mooring buoy for handling crude oil through subsea pipelines, capable of accommodating fully laden VLCCs. Pollution Control: It is an offence to discharge or allow escape, will-fully, or accidentally, any oil, oily mixture, oily/dirty ballast or contaminated bilge water or noxious sewage from any vessel within Mundra port limits. Dumping or throwing of galley refuse, garbage and rubbish, hold sweepings etc. into the water or on the berths is prohibited. No chipping or painting to be carried out alongside berth. Inter-tank transfers of oil or ballast water, de-ballasting or discharge overboard of wash water etc. should not be carried out without permission of Port Control. Emission of dense smoke is prohibited from vessels within Port limits. Violations of stipulations under current Indian laws will incur heavy penalties. Cranes: Ten mobile harbour cranes of SWL 100 ton each with mobile hoppers are available for handling of capsize and panamax vessels. 03 Nos. mobile cranes (Goliath) with a capacity of 10/12 tons at Steel Storage Yard. The port has a wheat cleaning facility synchronized with export conveyor system and a rice sorting and grading facility along with a multiple bagging unit. Repairs: Minor repairs possible through workshops available at Mundra/ Gandhidham. Supplies: Fuel, Dry & Fresh Provisions are arranged through agents. Heavy oil, Diesal oil available alongside berths and at anchorage through pipelines, Lorries and barges. Freshwater available alongside berths through Lorries and pipelines. Small Craft Facilities: No yacht club exists, however suitable berths are available to accommodate the small vessels. Shore Leave: Shore leave to ship’s crew is normally granted by Immigration authorities as per the existing government rules. Transportation: The port is well connected by road & rail network to all the parts of the country. Nearest airport is Bhuj/Kandla having distance of 65 km. There is a depth of about 4 m over the bar in the approach to the anchorage at high water springs. Local knowledge of the area is required for this anchorage. Navinal Point: General anchorage: Anchorage can be obtained by small vessels, with shallow draught East of Navinal point Light House (22º 44'.43 N, 69º 42'.88 E) in a depth of about 5 m; the anchorage affords shelter from Westerly winds and is clear of the influence of tidal streams. When approaching this anchorage, care should be taken to avoid the dangerous wreck lying 1 ½ miles SE and a shoal bank, with a least depth over it of 0.3 m, laying about 2 miles ENE, respectively, of the lighthouse. Local knowledge of the area is required for this anchorage. South Basin Terminal: Total two berths in phased manner (one container berth inside the basin and two liquid berths on the outer sides). Presently southern basin terminal consists of two berths (SB 6 & SB 7) in phase 1 position 22º 44'.05 N, 69º 42'.13 E (N of MPT berth 2) each with a length of 405m. Dreged depth in front of berth is 17.5 m Turning circle is 375 m Storage capacity (sq.m) is approx. 905×458 m Two new facilities consisting of 04 new berths are being developed within South basin terminal-4 (Berths SB4 & SB5) and extention of container terminal 3 (SB8 & SB9) with additional berth length of 1300 m (650 mm to the E of the present berths) & (650 mm to the W of the present berths). Anchorage within the Port limits, depth of 12 to 30 m, has been established 4 miles SW of Navinal Point. Pilot boards 2 ½ miles SW of Navinal Point. Development: A captive port have been developed by M/S Adani Ltd. The mariner may contact control tower on VHF.
