South Bay (Galatea) is entered between Kwangtung Point (Muichano)  (6°47'.5N, 93° 52'.85E) and Indira Point (6°45'.15N, 93° 49'.65E), the S most point of Great Nicobar,4 miles SW. The bay affords fair anchorage, during the NE monsoon, in depths of about 21m at a distance of 1.25 miles SW of Kwangtung Point, but because of its position the heat is excessive.

A rock with a depth of less than 1.8m, over which the sea breaks, lies about 5 cables SSE of Kwangtung Point, but its position is approximate.

WalkerIsland, 3 m high and lieson the W side of the bay and approximately 1.93 miles NNE of Indira Point, is flat and rocky with no vegetation and several heaps of stones on it. The Island lies 4 cables SSE of a conspicuous hill and is easily distinguished from S, but from E it is hard to distinguish under the high land.

GalatheaRiver(DakkeaRiver) flowing into the head of the bay, is navigable by boats for a considerable distance, but at its mouth there is a sand bar which dries.

Landing can be effected in canoes through a gap in a reef about 1.2 miles N of Walker Island and at a similar gap on the E side of SouthBay about ½ mile NNW of Kwangtung Point.
