PORT MOUAT Chart No. 4115 8.29 Port Mouat Approaches, is entered between Perseus Point (11º 37'.9N, 92º 36'.6 E), and Andromeda Point (11º 37'.2N, 92º36'.65 E) 8 cables S. There are many dangers in the approaches and in the entrance to the port. A rocky bank with a least depth of 3.2m extends 1.6 mile S from Palmer point. Allen Patches, partly awash, lies in the outer part of a large area of foul ground, which extends about 2.2 miles N from the N coast of Tarmugli Island. Another 5.5m patch, the position of which is approximate, was reported to lie NE of Allen Patches. Hooper Patch(11º37'.8N, 92º35'.6E), with a least depth of 1.9m, lies 1 mile W of Perseus Point near the outer part of the coastal reef on which are many rocks below water and awash. Rocks with depths of less than 1.8m over them lie on the outer edge of a shoal bank extending ¾ mile W from Andromeda Point. 8.30 Port Mouat: Low wooded hills lie close ENE of Perseus Point. No port facilities exist here. Wandoor, a small township lies about 2 nm south of Andromeda point, has been developed into a tourist destination. It has a wooden jetty for berthing small tourist crafts and can be approached by the channel leading from NE of Alexandra Island. The channel provides good anchoring for small crafts and fishing boats. Regular bus service to Port Blair is available from Wandoor jetty. A helipad also exist about 2 Km north of Wandoor jetty. The navigable channel between the reef extending from each entrance point is about 3 cables wide. Two shoal patches with least depth of 3.6 and 4.5m lie in the middle of the fairway dividing the entrance into two channels with depths of 11 to 18m. The navigable channel although deep, contracts to a width of 1 cable 1½ miles E of the entrance; farther E the harbour expands in to a landlocked basin in which anchorage may be obtained in depths of about 9m. 8.31 Directions: If from N, steer for Fredrick Point (11º36'.3N, 92º32'.3E), the NW point of Tarmugli Island keeping it on bearing less than 180ºuntil Perseus Point bears 102º; than steer for the latter on that bearing which leads through the channel about 7 cables wide between the rocky bank extending S from Palmer Point and foul ground extending N from Tarmugli Island. When Grub Island (11º35'.3N, 92º35'.7E), 2 miles SSW of Andromeda Point, bears about 159ºand is in line with Mount Ford alter course SSE to keep these marks in line, this leads between Hooper Patch and Allen Patches. Palmer Point: When the N entrance Point of the channel leading to the inner basin bears 086º steers for it on that bearing; this leads between the reef extending N from Andromeda Point and the two shoal patches in the middle of the fairway in the entrance. Local fishing craft approaching Port Mouat from S are reported to use Elphinstone passage which leads W of Red Skin Island (LambaPahar)(11º33'N, 92º35'.6E), and between Tarmugli and Grub Island but there are many dangers in the S approach to this passage. 8.32 LabyrinthIslands consists of about 14 islands and islets close to the SW side of South Andaman Island between Port Mouat and the W entrance to MacphersonStrait, 10 miles SSW. All are rocky and fringed with coral reefs extending upto 1 mile from their seaward sides. Large blocks of these reefs are broken off by the sea during the SW monsoon and are swept on to the reefs, where they resemble rocky boulders. TarmugliIsland(11º35'N, 92º33' E), the NW island of Labyrinth Group, lies with FredrickPoint (11º36'.3N, 92º32'.3E), its NW point 4½ miles WSW of Perseus Point. On the S central part is a summit on which a conspicuous tree stands, the top of which is 79m high. The SW extremity is cliffy, with two rocks 4m high, close off it. Reefs extending upto 1 mile at places fringe almost all around the island. Belle Islet lies close SE of Tarmugli Island. GrubIsland(11º35'.3N, 92º35'.7E) is 24m high and with yellow cliff, lies about 2.8 miles SSW of Perseus Point. RedSkinIsland (LambaPahar) (11º33'N, 92º35'.6E), lies with its N extremity ¾ mile S of Grub Island. AlexandraIsland(11º34'.7N, 92º33'E), 81m high at its SE extremity, lies ½ mile NE of Red Skin Island. HobdayIsland(11º 33' N, 92º 37' E), 84m high, lies 4 Cables E of Red Skin Island. PlutoIsland(11º 32'.6 N, 92º 37'.8 E), is a small island49m high, lies ½ mile E of Hobday Island. The island is fringed all around by reefs. Between the island and the coast of S Andaman Island there are many drying reefs. MalayIsland (NawNariyal)close SW of Hobday Island and the SE island of Labyrinth Islands is 3 cables from the S end of red skin Island, it has a rounded peak 68m high at its N end. Elphinstone Passage leads between the W side of RedSkinIsland and SnobIsland(11º33'.8N, 92º34'.6 E), 46m high, about ¾ mile W. BoatIsland (ChinaPahar), (11º32'N, 92º34' E), 1.5 miles SW of Red Skin Island, 37m high, is the SW of Labyrinth Islands.
