General Information- Udangudi Port (Minor) (08? 26’ 16.788’’ N, 78? 04’ 41.308’’ E). Construction/ development of a thermal power plant, jetty, breakwater and a bridge connecting jetty to power plant ashore are in progress. The bridge extends upto 4.27 Nm into sea from coast. The jetty under construction will be used to berth ships supplying coal for the thermal power plant under construction. The construction is being undertaken by M/s Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) and  completed in 2024.
 
Construction of Jetty and Thermal Power Plant
Udangudi Port (Minor)  is an all-weather direct berthing port. The port is privately owned and developed by M/s Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) .for the pupose of captive coal jetty for thermal power plant.  A breakwater center position 08-23-37.93 N 078-08-12.91 E, is postioned seaward to check the swell and wind effect for safety of vessels bethed along the jetty.

Function- Tranportation of coal for the the state owned plant.
 
Tides- Max range of tide is 1.07 meter. Tidal streams of 0.5 kts are experienced between Diu head and Sutrapura.

Weather- The attention of Small vessels coasting is drawn to:
Numerous shoals and rocks, over which the sea breaks in heavy weather, lie up to about 2 miles offshore between Tiruchendur Point and a position 7 miles NNE.And:
An area of foul ground and rocks, over which there are heavy breakers during the NE monsoon, extending 3 miles offshore between Manappad Point and a position 5 miles NE.

Pilots and tugs

Pilotage- Pilotage is compulsory for all vessels. Services of local Pilots can be had on request. Such a request should be addressed to local agents. Masters are advised to pass ETA at least 72 hrs and update the same 48 hrs, 24 hrs and 12hrs prior to arrival. Pilot embarks 3 Nm from berth.
Tugs- 03 VSP tugs of 50 T BP are available in the port.

Jetties
The port has two berths, which are open piled structures with tuber bunds and a piled approach from the breakwater. 
The present length of jetty is 555m. Depths available  17 m. Maximum draught handled is 3.7m.

Local town: Kulasekaranpattinam (08°24'.80N, 78°03'.30E). A small port identified by the ruins of a large church which is partially buried in sand. Coasting vessels sometimes call the port.
 
Navigational Aid: Manappad Point Light 

Caution- Vessels should avoid passing through the area of the above shoals, and in reduce visibility are advised give it a wide berth. Larger vessels should navigate with caution as a large number of small fishing vessels are found in depths less than35m.
