APPROACHES TO DAHEJ CHART NO. 2082 8.147 1. `General information: Dahej (21º 42'.95 N, 72º 34'.85 E), a large town, lies at the head of Ban Creek. It is having some prominent buildings, which can be seen from well offshore. Dahej Anchorage, described below, is used solely for the unloading of bulk fertilisers by barges with a HW/HW cycle. 2. Offshore features: . A drying flat, which is steep-to along its W edge, extends about 1½ mile from the shore, and the S part of Makra Bank lies 3 miles farther W. Tidal stream: In the anchorage the tidal stream has a rate of 5 kn during spring tides. 4. Pilotage: Pilotage is optional and is provided by the Assistant Port Officer if required so. 5. Directions: A daylight approach and anchoring at slack water is recommended. Bharuch channel is marked with buoys (IALA Region A), leads to RDMT jetty. 6. Anchorage:Vessels can anchor off the village, between the drying flat and the S part of Makra Bank, with Luhara Point Lighthouse bearing 136º distant 5¼ miles, in a depth of about 17 m, sand; as shown on the chart. 7. Storm signals: Storm signals are displayed by using the brief system is used. See 1.48. Facility: Facility.Self-propelled barges each with a 550 tonnes capacity. 8. Development: Petronet LNG Limited has constructed second jetty 500 m immediate south of existing LNG Jetty. 9. Vessel Traffic Management System(VTMS): VTS Khambhat. The VTS area covers entire Gulf of Khambhat, area North of latitude 20º 30'.0 N 71º 20'.0 E. General Information: Reliance Dahej Marine Terminal (RDMT – earlier known as IPCL Jetty) is situated at the mouth of the river Narmada, Gulf of Khambhat, Gujrat (India). RDMT facilities are within the port limit of Dahej under the jurisdiction of the Gujrat Maritime Board. It is a captive jetty and involved in import and export of petrochemical products (chemical, gas and oil) for Reliance Industries Ltd., Dahej Manufacturing Division. The jetty was constructed in the year 1996. 2. Position: This RDMT jetty is located at position (21° 39'.67N, 072° 33'.7E). 3. Port Limit: Seearticle 8.148 para 2. 4. Function: RDMT handles following cargoes: Import- Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM), Ethylene, Propylene, Naphtha. Export - Caustic Soda Lye (CSL), Mono Ethylene Glycols (MEG) and Ethylene. 5. Traffic: 80-90 Vessels/Year (Gas and Chemical Tankers). 6. Maximum Size of Vessels Handled: Vessels with a LOA of 126m and a maximum draft of 6.5m. 7. Arrival Information: All arriving vessels are advised to contact the RDMT terminal at least 72 hours before arrival. 8. Notice of ETA: Vessels should send ETA 72, 48, 24 and 12 hours in advance. 9. Port Radio: . VHF Ch 14 is used for Port/Pilot communication. 10. Anchorages: Vessels arriving at Dahej for load/discharge of cargo at RMDT should anchor within half a mile radius of (21° 36'.0N, 72° 30'.3E) in water with average depth of 10 to 15m. atDahej anchorage –Bharuch Roads. Luhara Point Light house (21° 39'.57N, 72° 32'.89E) provides a landfall mark for anchorages [situated 1nm (approx) SW of RDMT]. 11. Pilotage: Pilotage is available and Pilot boards at the entrance of buoyed channel (Near 1st pair of buoy No. 1 and 2) using a tug approx 5 nm SW of RDMT. 12. Approach Information: Vessels arriving for RDMT Jetty use the designated navigational channel (Bharuch Channel). The channel to RDMT is approx. 3.7 nm long and is marked by channel marking buoys as per International system of Buoyage (Region A). The depths in navigational channel at any time are dependent on the prevailing tidal conditions. 13. Tides: Tides are semidiurnal with two High waters and two Low waters each lunar day. The tidal range is from 0.2m (LLWS) to 10.5m (HHWS) at CD. 14. Tidal Streams: Strong currents are prevalent in the vicinity of the port with velocity reaching upto 8 knots in spring tides. Ebb tide is usually the stronger of the two. Vertical Spring tidal range is about 10m, and increases in monsoons. Flood stream flows at 345° while ebb stream flows at 165°. Maximum intensity lasts for about 2 to 4 hours. 15. Navigational Aids: (i) Light House - Luhara Point Light house (21° 39'.57N,72° 32'.89E), 08 mile (approx) SW of RDMT jetty. Range 11 M. (ii) Transit Lights – Jetty is provided with the beacons at the extreme ends of Eastern and Western Dolphins. (iii) Channel Buoys - The channel is marked by channel marking buoys as per International system of Buoyage. 16. Tugs: Two Tugs of 12 MT and 15 MT Bollard Pull are provided by RDMT. The use of tugs are required for berthing/unberthing of the vessel at the jetty and embarking/disembarking of pilot at entrance of the navigational channel. 17. Berthing and Wharves: RDMT provides one berth designed to accommodate chemical and gas tankers. Jetty is connected by 400 m trestle to shore providing vehicular access to the jetty head. Two mooring dolphins having 3 automatic quick release hooks each support the jetty head. Vessels forward and aft springs are put on jetty head bollards and other lines on respective mooring dolphins with quick release hooks. Jetty head fender system consist of high density rubber angular fenders and two in number each (2.2m x 3.5m) pneumatic fenders (Yokohama type). 18. Pollution Control: All vessels must have an approved "Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan" as per MARPOL 73/78 in accordance with the requirements of Regulation 26 of Annex I or "Shipboard Marine Pollution Emergency Plan" in accordance with the requirements of Regulation 26 of Annex I and Regulation 16 of Annex II. 19. It is the Master's responsibility to ensure that no oil of any kind is pumped or spilled overboard from his vessel. 20. Utmost vigilance must be exercised to prevent any pollution through oil spills, ballast or bilge discharges. All oily overboard valves should be closed and locked and deck scuppers must be plugged tight before a cargo operation commences. Serious consequences may arise as result of any pollution and RDMT will hold the vessel responsible for any expense involved in cleaning the contaminated area. 21. Cargo Handling Equipments: RDMT handles only liquid and gas cargo. Jetty is provided with two loading arms. (i) Chemical Arm – For handling Naphtha/ Caustic/ VCM. (ii) Cryogenic Arm – For handling Ethylene/ Propylene/ Glycols/ VCM. 22. Supplies: Supplies are available only through ship's agents. 23. Shore Leave: . General Information: The GCPTCL (Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Company Limited) jetty is a Chemical cargo import/ export Terminal at Dahej. Terminal having "T" shaped jetty head, 2.4km approach trestle on piles with walkway from the edge of the main land. 2. Position:This GCPTCL jetty is located at position (21º 41'.46N, 72º 30'.54E) about 2.8 miles NW of Luhara village. 3. Port Limits: As shown on the Chart 2039. 4. Function: Naphtha is the principle Export/Import cargo of GCPTCL captive jetty. 5. Traffic: Year 2006-07 2007-08 2008-09 No. of Vessels 142 160 129 DWT Varying, 6000 to 60000 DWT 6. Maximum Size of Vessels Handled:Vessels upto 60,000 dwt with a LOA of 111m to 215m and a maximum draft of 14.5m. 7. Arrival Information:All arriving vessels are advised to contact the GCPTCL port control station on VHF Ch 16 at least 4 hrs and 2 hrs before arrival. All inbound and outbound vessels should report to the GCPTCL port control while crossing the port limits as shown on the chart and provide Q-88/Form C for confirming suitability of berthing. 8. Notice of ETA: Vessels should send ETA 72, 48, 24 and 6 hours in advance through agents. 9. Port Radio: VHF channels 16 and 77 are used for Port/Pilots communication. 10. Anchorages: Anchorage may be obtained 1.5 miles W of Jetty. Anchoring at slack water is recommended. 11. Pilotage: Pilotage is compulsory and Pilot boards 1mile W of GCPTCL jetty in position (21º 41'.45N, 72º 29'.50E). 12. Approach Information: Approach towards Dahej is made from the south. The GCPTCL jetty is open to sea with no channel restrictions. 13. Tides: Tides are semidiurnal with two High waters and two Low waters each lunar day. The tidal range is from 0.7m (LLWS) to 10.2m (HHWS) at CD. 14. Tidal Streams: The strength of the tides is unusually high on occasions during the spring tides. The tidal flows are 174º - 186º (T) on the Flood and 353º - 359º (T) on the Ebb. The tidal stream in the anchorage has a rate of 5 knots and at the berth upto 7 knots during the spring tides. Masters are advised to pay particular attention to mooring lines at all times while berthed alongside. 15. Navigational Aids: GCPTCL Port Control Tower (Red beaconlight) (21° 41’.5N, 72° 30’.6E) 16 Tugs: Two Tugs, 40 tons bollard pull each, steerable rudder propulsion are used for berthing/unberthing operations. 17. Berthing and Wharves: A single berth, "T" shaped jetty head, 241m in length and platform height of 20m at CD is located at the end of a 2.4km long piled approach trestle/walkway. Vessels berthing at GCPTCL jetty should have a minimum freeboard of 3.5m and a trim of 2.0m by stern. Vessels are berthed Port side alongside to. Mooring lines of 4+3+3 fwd and aft are used with rope diameter of minimum 64m. Vessels are berthed in HW and LW slack during the daylight hours. During dark hours, only HW slack. At the second hour of flooding after the LW slack the tugs may be kept in the vicinity on stand by if the current is strong, as the vessel tends to move off the berth especially during the spring tide. Additional crew are kept stand by to tend to the moorings. 18. Pollution Control: Engine room bilge water should be retained on board and Garbage of any sort should not be thrown over board. Master is advised to collect all domestic waste in plastic bags and land it at the next port. 19. Harbour Facilities: Cranes & Cargo handling equipment, Diving assistance, Search & Rescue, Medical, Repair facilities are not available at the terminal. Approach Information:In Gulf of Khambhat a Channel designed as the Narmada Channel has been identified for use of the LNG Carrier. Ships are berthed only during turn of tide (near slack water) and preferably during daylight hours. 10. Tides: are semidiurnal with two High waters and two Low waters each lunar day. The tidal range is from 0.7m (LLWS) to 10.2m (HHWS) at CD. 11. Tidal Streams:Strong current up to 5.5 Knots are experienced in the vicinity of the Terminal. Predominant direction of the tidal current is along 160°-340°. 12. Temperature: April and May are the hottest months of the year with mean maximum temperature of about 40°C. January is the coldest month with mean minimum temperature of 13°C. 13. Rainfall: South West monsoon contributes about 75% of the average annual rainfall of about 3000 mm.
