REDI Anchorage Chart No.2046 REDI General information Position. Port Redi (15º 45' N, 73º 40' E) stands on the S side of a shallow creek about 2 miles NNW of the entrance to the Terekhol River. It is well known iron ore mining town. Function. Earnest John Group of companies has taken over Redi Port on a 50 years concession for developing it as an all weather multi-commodity state of the art port from Maharashtra Maritime Board. The port is an open roadstead port used by vessels loading iron ore from self propelled lighters. The port is closed during the SW monsoon from mid-September to mid-May. Traffic. About 15 vessels calls the port and around one million metric tonne iron ore is exported mainly to China every year which is brought from hinterland of Redi village. Tidal levels. See information in Tide Tables. Mean spring range about 1.5 m; mean neap range about 0.8 m. for tidal levels off Vengurla,7 miles NW. Arrival information Notice of ETA. Vessels are required to send their ETA through E-mail or FAX 72 hours in advance to Redi Port Head Office at Mumbai or FAX to the port directly. Pilotage. is compulsory and carried out by the Port Officer in day light hours only. The pilot boards in the general anchorage and conducts vessels to a loading anchorage. The pilot can be contacted on VHF CH 16. CH 15 is working channel. Harbour information General layout. There are two lighter jetties at Redi Point situated W of the town. The general depth in the harbour is about 2 m. The harbour is protected from N winds and currents by cliffs and islands which almost surround it. Storm signals are displayed at the port by using the brief system. Anchorages General anchorage. Vessels can obtain anchorage in the general anchorage area about 2 miles W of Redi Point, in a depth of 13 m, mud; as shown on the chart. Loading anchorages. Jetty One and jetty Two are the two anchorages situated NW and SW of Redi Point; at these anchorages, vessels with a draught of up to 10.4 m can load safely. Port services Facilities. The port is providing all infrastructure facilities to exporters and is ISPS compliant. First aid facilities are available at the port. Hospital facility is available only at Vengurla, 14km North Supplies: nil. Development There are plans to convert the port from a barge orientated port to one which will accommodate vessels of up to 60 000 dwt at alongside berths. Rail, Road and Air Services.
