2042- Approaches to Malvan

Outer route (W of Vengurla Rocks) 

1	Caution. Vessels should keep in depths of more than 20 m by day and 30 m at night between Chaldea Rock and Malvan Rock, 5 miles NNW. The buoy about 4 cables WSW of Chaldea rock is only in position between October to May.

2	Passage. The route leads 25 miles NNW from a position WSW of Terekhol River (15°43'.15N, 73°41'.14E) to a position WSW of Malvan Bay, passing,
	WSW of Havelock Rock (15°43'.25N, 73°39'.69E), a sharp pinnacle awash with another rock, also awash, 4 cables NE and 1½ cable SW. Then to WSW of Redi Rock (12 m in height) (15°43'.86N, 73°38'.92E), and clear of the islets, rocks 	and drying reefs lying off Redi Point, about 1 mile NNW. 
3	Then to WSW of a dangerous wreck (position approximate) (15°46'.00N, 73°37'.00E), then to WSW of Vengurla Rocks (Burnt Islands) (15°53'.57N, 73°27'.75E); lying between Tapti Rock and Karil Rock situated, respectively, near the S 	and N ends of the area of foul ground.
4	Then to WSW of Square Rock (12 m in height) (15°59'.24N, 73°27'.37E) with rocks lying SSW and NNE of it and foul ground extending E to the coast. Then to WSW of Malvan Rock (16°01'.78N, 73°26'.07E), with a swept depth of 2.5 m 		over it.

5	Mandel Rock (6 m in height), with numerous detached shoals and rocks, lies about 1½ miles ESE of Malvan Rock.Then to a position WSW of Malvan Bay.

6	Clearing bearing. Between Niuti Fort and Malvan Bay, Vengurla Rocks Light bearing less than 158° clears of the offshore dangers.

Inner route (KarilKachal Channel) 

1	Caution. Do not use this channel in the night, but pass W of Vengurla Rocks.

2	Passage. Small craft, intending to proceed through KarilKachal Channel, from the vicinity of Vengurla Roads (15°50'.11N,73°36'.19E) should steer to pass (with positions from Vengurla Point (15° 51' N, 73° 37' E): E of 			Vengurla Rock (15°53'.57N, 73°27'.75E) and the foul ground extending about 3 miles N of it.

3	Then to SW of Bhubra Rock (15°56'.09N, 73°30'.59E), a rock awash lying 3½ cables SW of Niuti Fort (ruin); the rock is marked by a buoy (black, can) moored close off its SSW side during the fine weather season (October to May), 		the position of the buoy is not reliable. 

4	Follow the moderate depth channel between Karil Rock (13 m in height) (15°56'.00N, 73°27'.85E) and Chaldea Rock (15°57'.16N, 73°28'.27E), 1¼ miles NNE; the latter rock, which is awash and lies near the S end of foul ground 			extending to the shore NNE, is marked by a buoy (black, conical) moored about 3½ cables WSW of it during the fine weather season (October to May). A line of bearing 093° astern, of Niuti Fort, leads through the channel. And 		thereafter, As described in the outer route above.

1	Near the North bank of Terekhol River, Terekhol Fort (22 m in height) (15°43'.28N, 73°41'.18E) stands on the brow of a hill.
	Redi Fort (ruined, 35 m in height) (15°45'.17N, 73°39'.94E) stands at 1 mile ENE of the flat rocky projection of Redi Point.

2	Machlimar Point (15°48'.35N, 73°38'.70E), with a small hill, which rises about 1 mile NNW of the entrance to Talavda River.
	Wagh-giri (Tiger Hill) (316 m in height) (15°52'.85N, 73°41'.94E). Parule Hill (158 m in height) (15°58'.32N, 73°30'.78E) standing 2 miles N of Niuti Fort is prominent. Sindhudurg Janjira Light (16°02'.47N, 73°27'.43E)
