The currents have a seasonal variation related to the monsoon-from February to september the most frequent set towards the south-east with the gretest constancy during june to August;during October currents are variable in direction,but from November to january the most common set is towards the north-west.The speeds of the currents are mostly less than 1 knot,but speeds of about 2 knots occur at times,mainly during July,August and December.Exceptionally the current has a significant onshore component.For further information,see also Sailing Directions,current Atlases etc.
