NORTH WEST PASSAGE

Navigation through the North West Passage is not recommended when the tidal stream, which may exceed
five knots, is running strongly.  Swirls and eddies exist, and in addition much of the kelp is drawn
under, and therefore gives no indication of underwater dangers. It is recommended that the passage
be attempted only at or near slack water.
