CHRISTCHURCH HARBOUR ENTRANCE - CHANGING DEPTHS

The position of the entrance channel and depths over the bar are subject to
change, particularly in winter. The channel is buoyed in summer and if the
channel moves the buoys are moved accordingly. In The Run (50°43'·4N 1°44'·5W) 
the tidal streams are strong with an average rate of 3 to 5 knots; the outgoing 
stream may attain a rate of 7 knots.
