CURRENTS

In the open seas the South Sub-tropical Current flows WSW, at an average
rate of 0.5 to 0.75 knots but occasionally exceeding 1 knot. In sounds
lying E-W the flow may be locally enhanced, especially when the tide runs
with the current. To the West of islands, variable currents can be expected.
