The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted proposals to establish Areas To Be Avoided (ATBA) off the coast of Brazil in the Santos Basin, which are to be implemented at 0000 UTC on 1 July 2025.

To reduce the risk of maritime incidents, improve navigation safety and protect the marine environment all ships, except those engaged in offshore support activities, should avoid the Areas To Be Avoided.
