Ice extents are based upon 15% ice concentration data for 2016 to 2021.

Maximum ice extent: The largest expectable ice coverage in winter months. Derived from mean ice extent data for February in the Arctic.

Minimum ice extent: The largest area in which ice can be expected throughout the year. Derived from mean ice extent data for August in the Arctic.

Data based on EUMETSAT Ocean and Sea Ice Satellite Application Facility, global sea ice concentration climate data record 1979-2015 (v2.0, 2017) OSI-450 and global sea ice concentration interim climate data record 2016-onwards (v2.0,2017) OSI-430-b.
