The Federal Decree No. 98.864 of 01/23/1990, created the Tamoios Ecological Station, which covers the charts No 1607, 1631, 1632, 1633, 1636 and 1637. The ESEC Tamoios has 29 islands, islets, slabs and rocks, besides the marine environment and submerged rocks within the radius of 1 km length of the same ones, located in Baía da Ilha Grande, Baía da Ribeira and the Baía de Paraty. Anchoring, fishing, recreational diving and public visitation are prohibited within this protected area.
